Biography:
European Fine Artist. Schooled and skilled in a classic old masters tradition with a modern sensibility. Believes in the eternal values and the credo of the Renaissance; "Love and respect for God’s creation, for it’s harmony and beauty without alterations - a knowledge of anatomy, perspective, composition, painting and drawing methods and skills". Andelko (Andy) Pranjic was born in Sarajevo Bosnia & Herzegovina on March 28, 1964 the very same hour a Tsunami struck the coast of Alberni Valley. Thirty years later, by fate, by chance or by divine providence he become a permanent resident of Alberni Valley. Andelko cannot remember when he started to draw but he remembers being called “the artist” by his elementary school friends and teachers. First he went to a Commercial Fine Art School to learn about advertising, illustrating and graphic design, and then he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from "Academy of Fine Arts", University in Sarajevo. During his schooling years he travelled across Europe studying the work of the Old Masters: Leonardo, Durer, Rembrandt, Wermeer and Ingres, to name just a few whose work inspires him. Two years he worked as an illustrator and a portrait painter attending the painter’s workshops in Pocitelj, Backa Topola and Slavonski Brod. In 1989 Andy started teaching Fine Art and History of Fine Art at a high school in Bosanski Brod. He was an advertising artist, as well as custom and scene designer for a local theatre. During the summer he painted portraits on the Adriatic Coast. At the beginning of the war in Bosnia Pranjic chooses not to fight, so he spent two years as a refugee in Sweden. Then he immigrated to Canada to reunite with his wife Tatjana. Soon, upon immigrating to Canada in 1995, British Columbia’s vibrant colours and light immediately captivated Pranjic and his artistic self was born again. He entered a few Professionally Juried Art-shows and won in every category and for each piece he entered. It’s taken awhile, but Andelko Pranjic’s passion has once again become his main pastime. Andelko loves to study human nature and he is inspired by the integrity of the individual at any age - all those things that make us ourselves, therefore portraits and caricatures are the best and the most natural way to express that need.
